Nick Finzer, Faculty Focus: October 24, 2014


Our multi-talented trombone faculty, Nick Finzer presented a concert on October 24 featuring his own compositions and the Expostion Ensemble: Lucas Pino, tenor saxophone; Chris Ziemba, piano; Bryan Carter, drums; Dave Baron, bass; and Nick Finzer, trombone.  Check out the photo highlights below.

Violin Exhibition: October 18, 2014

Each year, many violin makers from around the world travel to New York to present some of their recent work at the Exhibition of Modern Violin Makers.  This years event took place October 18-20 at the Kosciuszko Foudation on the Upper East Side.  BSM faculty Naho Parrini attended the event with several violin students from BSM, so they could experience a wide variety of high quality modern violins.  The students really enjoyed playing the violins and learning why they may like some violins more than others.  Here are a few photos.








Arc-en-ciel: October 17, 2014

BSM piano faculty Yvonne Troxler and guest artist Anna Spina presented a concert entitled Arc-en-ciel on October 17.  Works for viola and piano from three centuries were performed, including C.P.E. Bach’s Sonata in G-minor, H. Vieuxtemps’s Elégie op.30, J. Wyttenbach’s trois chanson violées for a singing violist, and three of G. Ligeti’s Études from book 1.

Brazilian Jazz: October 10, 2014

The Jeremy Noller Trio (Chris Ziemba, piano, Matt Aronoff, bass, & BSM drum faculty, Jeremy Noller) with guest vocalist Aubrey Johnson presented an evening of classic Brazilian songs and Brazilian-infused jazz standards on October 10.  Check out some of the photo highlights below.









The Jazz Modernists: Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter: October 3, 2014

On October 3, Bassist Kevin Farrell’s new quartet explored the music of two of the greatest innovators in jazz: Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter.  Farrell, one of BSM's jazz faculty was joined by guests Julia Chen, piano, Andrew Mulherker, saxophone, and BSM drum faculty, Jeremy Noller.  Below are some photo highligths of the event.










JALC/BSM Kick-off Concert: October 2, 2014

Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Bloomingdale School of Music kicked off their 3rd collaborative year with a concert featuring JALC and BSM faculty on Thursday, October 2 at Christ & Saint Stephen's Church.  This partnership is a wonderful way for both institutions to help the communities they serve.  Check out some of the photo highlights below.
